I'm grateful to Urbs & Polis and Sarah Rollens for hosting a recent live stream event about my book, The Origins of Early Christian Literature. A recording of the live stream is available via YouTube.
While part of me wants to take some time to wonder about whether or not a recording of a live stream event is a "dead stream," I feel it's more appropriate to share with you my recent article for Urbs & Polis: "The Signal-Man."
If you, too, have wondered whether or not Jonathan Z. Smith secretly channeled Charles Dickens — and I know you have! — then this piece is for you. More importantly, perhaps, I'm hoping that you'll continue to think about the literary influence and dialogue with which much of early Christian literature, especially the canonical gospels, is playing.
Enjoy!
